Aquosus gate valve

Unique technology and flexibility
- a revolutionary new gate valve

Kongsberg Esco AS was the first company in the world to develop a modular gate valve that enables one to build valves with desired connections, tailored to any needs.

A unique feature of the valve is the new closing principle, which radically improves both function and quality. The choice of materials used in the new valve also solves all problems with corrosion around the seal area.

Aquosus® – a completely new principle for gate valves
Modern gate valves employ a sealing principle whereby a rubberised gate closes and seals against a moulded valve casing. Aquosus® uses a reverse solution whereby a stainless steel gate closes and is sealed against a reinforced sealing cartridge. The valve casing is in two parts and is bolted together around the sealing cartridge. This solution makes the product more independent of moulding tolerance, since precise measurements and geometry are shifted from moulding to the reinforced sealing cartridge. The cartridge is moulded and vulcanised in a mould that secures the desired accuracy.

Aquosus® – reliable and functional
The materials used in the new Aquosus® valve do not corrode. The valve’s gate is supplied as standard in stainless steel AISI 316. The sealing cartridge is made from TPR ( termoplastic rubber). In addition to beeing corrosion-proof, the combination of stainless steel against rubber is very hard-wearing. The valve’s spindle is supplied as standard in stainless steel, but can be supplied in AISI 316 if the client needs a solution capable of withstanding seawater.

A demanding test programme shows very good results compared with products available today. The gate is equipped with special sliding blocks, and construction has been optimised in respect of balance, strain and friction for the gates movement. This together with the choice of materials used makes the valve very easy to use. The closing torque is very low, and the opening/closing phase makes it feel as though it is servo-powered.

Aquosus® – a flexible solution gives countless opportunities
Aquosus® gate valves are characterised by their modularity and flexibility. The valve itself consists of a central unit and two connectors. The connectors are optional, and can thus be adapted to individual needs. This means that we can supply valves for use where it has previously been impossible, which in turn opens for new and creative technical solutions. Our product range will be expanded as demands and needs are reported.

Aquosus® – the profitable choice
Our tests include so-called lifetime tests. These tests have also been carried out on valves that are currently available. Aquosus® demonstrates very little physical wear and tear, even after 2500 opening/closing manoeuvres, which is uncommon.

Our modular Aquosus® principle means that an installation using a T pipe valve or a valve cross in manholes can be de-installed on site if necessary. In such cases, costly excavation in streets and roads can be avoided. In addition, Aquosus® helps save use of piping in manholes since reductions and transitions can be built into the valve.

Positive feedback from test plants
During the development of Aquosus® gate valves, we have cooperated with the municipalities of Trondheim, Drammen, Kristiansand and Bergen. This cooperation has primarily consisted in testing and placement of the valves in networks. The feedback we have received has been only positive. We have great faith in our new product, and hope that Aquosus® will help provide a more reliable network of water pipes and drains.
